KENT LIMOUSIN

Before Kent Limousin, there was the Tri-Bar-H brand on a commercial Hereford herd started by Ron Hanson and his daughter, Kathy (Hanson) Kent. When Wulf Cattle brought Limousin cattle to northern Minnesota, Ron and Kathy began purchasing Limousin bulls to cross on their Hereford cows.

While they quickly realized the benefits of the breed’s feed efficiency and higher yield, the most evident benefit was the trademark muscle Limousin bulls added to the calves. Right down to his last days on the farm, decades after bringing home the first Limousin bull, Ron continued to be impressed with the power and shape of a Limousin.

When Kathy was called home too soon, her husband, Terry, stepped into her role to continue the operation alongside her father. Together, Terry and Ron carried forward Kathy’s vision, ultimately passing the torch to the next generation – Kathy and Terry’s daughter, Danika, and her husband, Allan Dostal.
As time has passed, we’ve seen the breed – and our herd – evolve in remarkable ways. We’ve watched Limousin cattle gain recognition for calving ease, docility, and a more moderate frame that meets today’s efficient production needs. We’ve been fascinated by the science behind it all – genetic discoveries like the identification of the F94L myostatin gene, and the ability to track valuable traits through modern technology. The combination of tradition and progress continues to inspire us as breeders and cattlemen.

As we develop each calf crop and carefully plan the next, we work to honor the legacy of the families and cattle that built this program – generations of people and genetics that shaped where we are today.
Whether you’re looking to expand your own Limousin genetics or introduce the right cross for your commercial herd, we likely have something that can complement your program and improve your bottom line.
We take pride in raising cattle that work — for us, and for you.
